Joe Scarborough and Mika booted by Citadel …

Joe Scarborough and Mika booted by Citadel – Mark Simone will fill in the time slot. Citadel is currently in bankruptcy and looking at ways to cut expenses. Radio-info.com reports they will return at some point in the future with a 3 hour show. I’m skeptical.

Hmm… and it seems they were just catching on. That does somewhat surprise me.

As for seeing the show revived, don’t be too shocked if Westwood One picks them up in an MSNBC simulcast. Just an out-there prediction…

According to radio-info.com’s blurb, they have 22 affiliates currently. I currently have nine listed as streaming – all of them are Eastern Time zone (except a simulcast of 2 stations in Montana).

I’ll up your speculation ante. Expanding the show to three hours doesn’t make sense. That would push them to 1 PM (Eastern), which would overlap Rush Limbaugh, who is carried on most of their ABC Radio stations. Unless of course, Rush was no longer on the ABC radio stations in the future :) How about Joe and Mika moving to Noon to 3 PM?

Wow, that was fast. Their show page is already gone from the Citadel Media “Our Shows” list

Scarborough is still on the air this week….

Scarborough is stating that his ratings are higher than Glenn Beck’s…. that’s a curious claim – in New York City perhaps, but Scarborough is only on 22 stations… he must be comparing market to market, not total audience…. (or maybe he was talking about Cable TV)

Feeling his oats, he also bragged about filling up MSNBC’s coffers and took several gratuitious shots at Glenn Beck, then complained about the lack of civility in talk radio.

Now there is a True Conservative!

I think he was referring specifically to New York City as far as ratings go. Scarborough on WABC <a href="http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/tv/2010/03/26/2010-03-26_more_than_the_average_joe_scarboroughs_a_hit_even_with_opponents.html" does appear to be beating Beck on WOR.

      • Art Stone says:

I agree that’s what he meant after looking around some more – he is only comparing WABC to WOR (and probably ignoring the 9AM hour).. Beck has only been on WOR a few months, and in a pretty general way the station doesn’t really want him. They would rather have some guy talking about restaurants or whats-her-name blaterhing on about the latest goings on at someone’s party out on long island….

The history of WOR is quite interesting (which you know being a radio person)… It had been owned by RKO – Howard Hughes – after his death in 1976, the government went after RKO General – General Tire dealers were being forced to buy ads on the RKO radio stations…. so the Justice Department forced RKO to sell their radio and TV stations in the 1980s (including WOR in 1987) – but all the big guys already had an AM station in New York (CBS, Westinghouse, ABC, NBC) and WOR was not a “failing station” so the 1 AM station per owner per market FCC rule preventing any big player from buying the station – so it wound up being sold to Mr Buckley who had several small market stations in Connecticut. (and later added several stations out in California)… but a very odd “small town” management for an AM station in the #1 market, hence the rather unique programming and the unusual syndicated programming attempt.
