If you put together a list of the top 5 most liberal cities in America, Portland, Oregon would have to be on that list. NPR’s station is the #2 in the market. Portland was one of the first cities to jump on the idea of bringing back streetcars (LRVs). Bicycle riding is very much encouraged by the government. It’s America’s #1 “greenest” city.
Larry Wilson originally ran Citadel Broadcasting. After the 1996 deregulation of Radio, Larry accumulated 205 small market stations. In 2001, just after the peak of the consolidation rush, his backers Forstmann Little bought him out and brought in Farid Suleman.
Larry Wilson sat it out on the sidelines and “retired” until 2009 when he created a new radio company called Alpha Broadcasting. His company bought KXL-AM and KXTG from Microsoft’s Paul Allen (did I mention Portland is a town run by liberals?) He now owns 2 AM and 4 FM stations in the Portland market.
Today’s shocking news is that KUFO-FM (101.1) which has been a Rock Music station has become a simulcast of KXL-AM with no warning. KXL carries Glenn Beck (on delay at 9am-noon), Jason Lewis and is the home station for Lars Larson.
Good morning FM Portland – this is Glenn Beck! There is still time to repent and join the Army of God and take our country back.
No reports yet if there are crowds of angry University students assembling for the Day of Rage in Portland.
Funny. Is it significant that the one station is KUFO? Doesn’t it need to be Roswell, NM? Shouldn’t they have to carry George Noory?
Speaking of bicycles, I went to school at UC Davis, which has the second highest ratio of bicycles per person in the world after Amsterdam (at least when I went there a hundred years ago). A lot of the halls just did not have enough bike racks to support the flood, so bike parking was a real problem.
Bikes and UFOs. And radio. I love these blogs.
At some point, their station branding did incorporate the UFO theme.
