Chicago’s Don Wade & Roma’s ratings fall through the floor Sun-times story
I have a different theory – Mancow coming on after their show is chasing away the older listeners – trying to attract non-existent young talk radio listeners. Either that or ACORN is stealing Arbitron’s PPM devices

I think their explanation’s a little closer to the truth, but you’re right. Especially in that time slot, the younger, mostly male demographic that they’d try to lure with that kind of show is at work, and probably can’t listen to AM radio at that time. That’s why the hot talk shows are almost always in the drive times. Putting a show like Mancow in middays is a total misfit.

I know Mancow’s a name-brand in Chicago, to the point where he was beating Howard Stern when he was on FM, but he totally does not fit in that time slot on that station.

I remember Steve Dahl (who followed Mancow on the FM station at the time) blaming Mancow for destroying the station’s (and Dahl’s) ratings. It escalated to the point of Dahl’s wife suing Mancow for some really inappropriate things said on the air – the case was ultimately setlled out of court.. I fully admit I don’t “get” Mancow at all, but then again I’m over 30 and don’t care for hard rock music in the middle of a talk show

Funny how things work out – Steve Dahl has just filed a lawsuit against Arbitron – if I followed it correctly, he’s not suing because the PPM made his ratings drop, but rather that the pre-PPM ratings were too high and convinced him that he had a big audience when he didn’t…
