Government Motors is in deep trouble – part of my computer career has been working in the car industry (GM, Chrysler). The government appointed CEO of GM was fired the day before he was to appear as the keynote speaker at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The taxpayers own 67% percent of GM. The government appointed Board wants some patriotic person to run the company for free.
The news tonight from Lou Ann Hammond is that Bob Lutz, the legendary car designer from GM was told to hop on a plane and leave the LA car show to return to Detroit (reasons unknown)…. The reason that the CEO was fired was that GM is not changing fast enough. I suspect Tim Geithner thinks executives doing marketing work and rebuilding the GM brand is a waste of time when they should be working on making green cars sooner.
