Washington Post finally reports on ClimateGate (on a Saturday)…. graphic along with the article shows the thing about the hottest years in recorded history being in the last 10 years attributed to NOAA. Washington Post must have missed the memo from last year that they made a mistake in the way they collected and processed temperature data. Background
Would you have expected any less?
I remember NASA’s “Y2K bug” that came out a few years ago. I think they were different revelations but I don’t remember for sure. The Y2K bug was a “processing error” that led to all the numbers after 2000 to be several degrees higher than they actually were.
Here is another “bug” I bet they overlooked – it’s what happens when people understand science backwards. In Science you start with the hypothesis, and they do your research to disprove the hypothesis and all reasonable alternative suggestions… it’s not like Journalism where you start with the premise and gather all information that supports your agenda, and ignore all the information that undermines it :)
Carbon Dioxide density varies with altitude… Carbon being a heavier molecule than normal air tends to migrate down – you don’t need suntan oil in the dead sea because the ultraviolet light is blocked by the high CO2 levels for an extra 1000 feet of atmosphere…
We know that 10,000+ years ago, the oceans were much lower (during the most recent ice age) because Asians migrated to the western hemisphere across a land bridge from Russia to Alaska…
Our “knowledge” of what CO2 levels were 100s of thousands or millions of years ago is based on the CO2 concentrations from ice cores…. but I’ll bet you none of those scientists have adjusted those CO2 readings for the reality that when they were formed, the ice was hundreds (or maybe thousands) of feet higher above sea level. The ice hasn’t moved – the level of the ocean has moved.
