Pssst Goldline tip – if you’re a wannabe blogger and think your ticket to Progressive Paradise is going after Glenn Beck’s “conflict of interest” over advertising Goldline, you may want to know Goldline advertises on Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, Randi Rhodes, and Bill Press. Are you sure this is the moral high ground you want to destroy your reputation on?
At least on radio (I can’t speak to TV since I don’t own one), Glenn Beck’s show begins with “This Half Hour sponsored by Goldline” – what’s so hard to understand about that. Glenn could then spend the entire half hour doing an explicit ad for Goldline if he wanted, including talking to the President of Goldline (which he has done in the past). There is nothing illegal or improper about that – the only requirement from the FCC is that you clearly disclose that you are being paid by an advertiser. People are suggesting on the “me too” blogs that the SEC should get involved. Goldline is not a publicly traded company – the SEC has *zero* jursidiction over private companies. Goldline is not offering people futures contracts or options on gold, so the CFTC has no jurisdiction. The FTC might have some jurisdiction IF someone can prove they are mispresenting what they are selling – but their issue would be with Goldline, not Beck. The standard for holdling a media person responsible for the actions of an advertiser is very high.
I guess the old saying is true, When your’e a Liberal its different, They won’t mention that libral radio plays the same ad’s, Its just another way to blame Beck. for something.
