Nostalgia ain’t what it used to be – WIST-AM in New Orleans used to be a News/Talk station – they had carried Tammy Bruce, Neal Boortz, Mancow, Savage, some local hosts, etc… a while back, they switched to “America’s Greatest Music”… they are now switching to a mostly sports based talk format.
Stephen A Smith, who was doing an afternoon hour on ESPN radio now becomes their morning sports talk show host.
Not exactly an A-List line-up. Standards format though nice, no one really listens to music on AM anymore.
That said, after they don’t get any ratings for a year or two, WIST will probably change formats to ‘ Scott Shannon’s Oldies Channel’. Where you can hear the same 40 oldies songs 24/7.
BTW: Glenn Beck is now on WIND-AM Chicago.
Ran across something this morning asking “Is Stephen A Smith the next Glenn Beck”? Mr Smith apparently said something about Hip Hop music being part of the genocide movement against black people. I have no idea why someone thinks that has any connection to Glenn Beck.
They may both be mono-chrome, from the Chris Mathews quote, and we all know what that means…..Huh?????
Chris who?????
Oops, my bad. People who spend way too much time here know I have zero interest in sports. Stephen A Smith is the new morning host on Fox Sports Radio – it isn’t a local show.
I would think so. I know Smith got the axe from ESPN– he wasn’t all that good– but I’m surprised Fox bumped Czaban for him. As far as I knew Czaban’s show was doing OK considering its time slot.
Seems it was about 2 years ago that Clear Channel parted ways with fox sports and overnight they went to making the local station in California the core of their programming and went to playing duck soup reruns overnight. It smells like a we ain’t got no money to pay anyone that’s good thing. Unless you’re in a major market with many pro teams, sports talk seems to be the format you try just before you switch to nostalgia music or regional Mexican accordian music. It keeps the license alive without costing you money for programming or getting your station boycotted
