A lot of information on youtube if you search on CES 2010….
Ford’s approach is to not really integrate mobile broadband directly, but to allow the iPhone to use bluetooth to interact with the entertainment system. Once Clear gets more cities under its belt and LTE shows up, it will become less risky to better integrate the broadband wireless internet.
And to think I used to own both a 4Track and 8Track player…..
Mobile internet would be a big boon to the ISP industry, with the increase of data plan sales. Not to be outdone, the insurance company’s would insert riders into policys for electronic built-in devices, in turn higher policy premeiums.
Beyond that would we could see increased traffic collisions and larger increases in violation fines.
Well, they’re not unaware of that. The Ford guy made a big point that it’s all controlled by voice commands or one touch actions. Anything like web browsing or watching videos will only work if the motor is off. But they’re also rolling out things like passive cruise control that will automatically slow the car if it detects you’re getting too close to the car in front of you (which could get interesting when someone passing you pulls back in right in front of you and your car slams on the brakes…
Connecticut’s current law makes a distinction between devices built into the car and devices that aren’t. It’s illegal to use your iPhone to look at GPS, but not if it is built into the car of the device is not capable of two way communications.

MaybeConneticut should be aware of Motorola’s new Blue Ant bluetooth hands- free earpiece. All you have to do is have favorites on your iPhone or other make cell phone , and speak into the blutooth device and say Speed dial # what ever and it dials it, The Blue Ant revolutionizes blue tooth because it contains spoken commands . Just tap the button and tell it what you want to do……
It’s a bigger point than that – it isn’t about using the iPhone as a phone – it’s operating a car while “using” a device that is capable of two way communications. You could be ticketed for using the camera, watching the stock market, looking at a map. The law doesn’t mention if you’re holding it, whether the car is in motion or whether you are using voice activaction. The dividing line between okay and bad is whether the device is permanently installed in the car.
