Harry Reid’s comments about race… Three thoughts about how this is being talked about…
1) Pay attention to the news sources – do they cut off “unless he wants to have one [Negro Dialect]”? That’s a very different point – it’s saying Barack Obama is a fraudulent persona who will change his racial identity depending on who he is talking to
2) Harry Reid’s comments are much less about Barack Obama than about the voters – he’s saying that if Barack wasn’t the things he is (light skinned and sounds white), Americans [Democrats] would not vote for him
3) Harry Reid is wrong – Barack Obama does not have a “Negro Dialect” EVEN when he wants to. The best he can do is a weak affectation of a Southern accent done by a liberal Ivy League lawyer. He grew up in Indonesia, then went to high school in Hawaii raised by his white grandmother, then Columbia in New York City, Harvard in Boston, and the affluent mixed race lakefront part of South Chicago in his 30s. Your “dialect” is a result of what people important to you sounded like as you were in your formative years. .
