Vegas monorail goes Chapter 11 – people in Seattle take note. Walt Disney’s vision for public transit looks good on TV, but not in reality. Car capacity and station dwell time (the time to open the doors, get people in/out, close the doors and leave the station) make monorails unviable in high traffic public transit systems. Michael Medved frequently rants about this as Seattle has a large group of residents who want to spend money to extend the current monorail from the Space Needle (but will probably never ride it)
The Seattle monorail has no switches, runs point to point with 2 trains on separate tracks, yet still managed to crash into each other a couple years ago.
