California sticks it to ethanol – specifically corn based ethanol. According to Bloomberg, the new standard for reducing carbon emissions requires including the emissions used to create the ethanol, essentially making it a “net” reduction. Since corn ethanol actually increases emissions when viewed as a whole, this probably is a crushing blow, and rightly so. Sugar and other types of ethanol do actually create significant improvement (if you accept the premise that co2 is even a problem). Too bad for ADM – good for Brazil… Except that Brazil now is making less ethanol because of record high global sugar prices

wow, our nitwits in the state legislature finally did something that actually makes sense…what they usually like to do is paint themselves as greenies and then contract to have coal plants built in Wyoming while nobody’s looking…
I can’t find the story now – I had seen it on the iPhone, and it’s very hard to copy/paste a URL into this P2 style WordPress blog. The “California Office of Administration” actually developed the specific standard, and the politicians in Nebrasks are threatening lawsuit.
Sugar beets grew where near I lived in Michigan – can they be grown in Nebraska I wonder?
Until about 5 or 6 years ago, the Central Valley of Califonia had Beet refineries from as far north as Hamilton City and as far south as Brawley – these have closed over the years with the exception of the one in Brawley, and the only Cane sugar refinery in Crockett Ca C&H which was bought about 3 or 4 yrs ago by Domino sugar. The beet refineries had thousands of acres of beet fields in between all around the valley, Now nothing but empty fields or re-planted for other crops.
If only California lawmakers could of had fore-site instead of Hinney site And they wonder WHY this state is so screwed up !! Close California’s government and open up free enterprise again, and maybe then and only then, will California flourish as the Golden State instead of the Welfare State !!!!!
