Bruce Williams is calling it quits…. according to Tom Taylor, Bruce is ending his self-syndication effort. Bruce was one of the pioneers in syndiccated talk radio. He also was probably one of the pioneers in doing his show from a studio in his home – he flew his airplane into the ground and nearly died – and Bruce did the show from his home while he recovered from the many surgeries trying to put him back together..

Well, I hope he has a nice retirement. His bio puts him at 11 years old during World War II, so that would put him between 76 and 80. Not many people are willing to work that late in life, thanks to the entitlement bonanza.
I believe G Gordon Liddy is now the oldest (79) — if he wasn’t already — I’m sure of Bruce’s exact age. Liddy is still going strong, although I can only find his show via the internet in my area. I used to listen to Bruce on a regular basis back in the 1990’s — he once described program as “vanilla ice cream” — it’s not the most exciting flavor but most people enjoy it.
Have a good retirement Bruce and thanks for being one of the pioneers of modern talk radio!
I’m not sure what the pool is here – syndicated hosts?
Les Kinsolving is still doing a local radio show – he’s about 83…. he’s on WCBM… he’s sort of the male version of Helen Thomas, but a lot smarter. His pointed questions annoy Presidents but he’s so well respected and knows the ropes so well they can’t avoid his questions…. Not sure if Obama lets him in any more….
Barry Farber is 80 this year – he’s synidcated on TRN, but probably only about 5 people hear his show.
Larry King is 77….. Westwood One just dropped his radio simulcast
Sally Jesse Raphael is turning 75…. she was doing a radio show from her home, but it didn’t go anywhere…
Thanks for the correction. I didn’t realize Farber was that old and I don’t know much about Kinsolving.
Larry King was much better on his old Mutual Radio show in the late 70’s-early 80’s. He wasn’t as much of a smoozer (IMHO) as he became under the lights of television.
I have never listened to Sally Jesse.
I’m going to miss Bruce… He is one of the first talk show hosts I listened to on a regular basis back in the early 80’s… I wish him the best of retirements…
I learned so much from Bruce over the last 30 years. My interests in politics, law, and finance were nurtured by his show. I remember Barry Farber and Dr Meltzer as weekend or fill-in hosts on Talknet way back in the early 80’s……….
