At the risk of wandering into ‘tin foil…

At the risk of wandering into ‘tin foil hat’ territory I have wondered once in a while if Limbaugh and Beck and the others (Noory too but for other reasons) haven’t been allowed to grow and fester as a sort of saftey valve… you know if Joe Six Pack calls Limbaugh – spouts – he can go back to his pizza in 30 min or less and soft core porn on Cinemax. That might be an academic exersice given the tea parties… have you noticed that in the enormous thicket of self promotion Beck has stopped calling himself a ‘thinker’?

I share part of your tinfoil hatology.

The radio business is not Conservative, although the smaller owners are – but 3/4ths of radio is music stations.

I think Rush was an accident. Putting him on WABC in New York may have been done to create a crazy conservative clown to make fun of until he self-destructed – but to their chagrin, he didn’t – and he was drawing a large audience of high income listeners that advertisers would pay big bucks to reach. But as Conservative as Rush is, he avoids most of the hard core issues. His religion is football – I don’t remember him ever mentioning something that happened at church. If he has ever owned a gun or gone hunting, he hasn’t mentioned it. He doesn’t seem to be troubled by global government or the UN NGOs. He focuses mainly on making Democrats look foolish, but doesn’t really advocate anything about how to fix it.

I’ve said before but since new people show up, I think Glenn Beck was used at CNN. The triggering event of the 2008 panic was the collapse of Bear Sterns. Someone was feeding him rumors that Bear Sterns was about to fail, and on Wall Street perception can turn into reality. I’m not saying he caused their problems, but I think someone at CNN was using his innocence and lack of understanding about “how things work” to accomplish what they wanted.

But then a funny thing happened – Beck started reading and studying and learning like a madman and building a network of reliable sources. CNN also forced him to learn about journalism – to look for mulitple sources before you go with something, to ask what the motivation is of the person feeding you information.

CNN hired a Conservative Clown and much to their chagrin created Godzilla that is now destroying them over at Fox. What Beck is doing and learning and teaching is really creating more and more of a contrast with the superficiality of Limbaugh. I’m glad Rush is on the air, but he will never be the influence that Beck has at the moment (Newt and the Contract with Ameirca was his Zenith of influence). On the other hand, Rush isn’t going to burn out and implode, which is a worry I have about Beck.

Savage I believe is nothing but an act. He grew up in New York in a liberal Jewish Democratic household. It stuns me that people think his father is the inspiration for Savage’s Conservative political views. His father was an immigrant from Russia who was part of the liberal establshment in New York.

Savage wanted to be Charles Darwin when he grew up. He went to Berkeley to get his phd. He thinks Chistians are stupid sheep being exploited by the church, and they are inherently anti-Jewish.

After bumming around the Pacific investigating the medicinal properties of native plants and writing and peddling his nutrition books under his real name of Michael Weiner (that’s why Levin refers to him as “Weiner Nation” – Levin resents that Savage is hiding his Jewish identity), he created the formula for Rockstar energy drinks (his son runs the company and his wife is the CFO). He was taught by and studied with lefists and Marxists.

His political and philosophical references contain none of the people most Conservatives would put on a list of Conservative thinkers.

Savage is playing an act of what a liberal thinks a Conservative sounds like. He has directly said that on the air. I’ve pretty much given up trying to open people’s eyes. He calls his audience morons to their face. He couldn’t be more clear.
