Reuters in a story explaining about cyberwarfare and the attacks on US Government sites today, uses the descriptive term “script kitty”. The actual term is “Script Kiddie”, referring to an unsophisticated young child – usually male – who runs around the internet with computer “scripts” written by someone else – to try to cause trouble. The term originated on AOL in the mid 1990s when kids ran around terrorizing chat rooms and trying to lure people into giving up their passwords (“phishing”). Usually the only trouble they cause is Dad’s computer gets infected with a virus and all his passwords and bank accounts are stolen. Good to know Reuters has a good grasp on the subjects they write about.
