If it’s full moon the birds will sing. They aren’t the smartest of beasts…mostly. The term ‘Bird-brain’ started for reason. :P

If you have a lot of street lights in the area, Robins will sing until early in the morning…they don’t know the difference of day and night in bright lights. Otherwise, they are probably alerting to some sort of danger in the area like cats.

Singing ? some people have all the luck, Most of the time mine just squak, and I can’t tell what my male is singing until he gets to the “Cracker Jacks” part .

I’ve lived in my place for 11 years now. This is the first year I’ve left the air conditioning off and leave the windows open at night. Global warming, bah! I’m not all that familiar with bird calls – my uninformed speculation is it’s a mocking bird. It seems to make all sorts of calls, each one different than the other.

After doing a little internet research, this apparently is exactly the behavior of the male mockingbirds during mating season.

I’ve always wondered – since they are mimicing the calls of other birds (and things like car alarms), how does the female bird know its actually another mockingbird?

This morning, I found an internet web site with recording of bird calls. I played the mockingbird one, and my new friend got very excited.
