I have become a fan of Pandora – my radi…

I have become a fan of Pandora – my radio station is Dean Martin. I got to rediscover Jimmy Durante and early Ella. Who makes money on Pandora? Is that the future of music distribution? Dumped iTunes 2+ years ago because they only rent music, don’t actually sell it. One last thing – Jerry Doyle is good. Dropped my Beck podcast subscription in favor of Doyle.

Pandora will make their money when gullible people invest in their IPO….

Pandora mirrors the issue of radio and the performance “tax” issue. Radio says that music companies should actually be paying them for getting music in front of potential buyers.

If you “tag” a song that you hear and buy it from iTunes, Pandora gets a few cents of that – they have to pay a few cents per hour for using the music. Pandora also shows advertisements. Audio advertisements will generate revenue but only after people are used to listening to it. The bandwidth cost is a small portion of the cost. Since you’re choosing your own music, there is no DJ to pay. Knowing what music a person listens to gives a marketer very valuable insights into what products you are likely to buy and what motivates you to make the decision to buy.
