FCC has no authority to regulate the Internet – that’s the 3-0 ruling by the DC Court of Appeals regarding so-called “net neutrality”

The case was brought by Comcast. The “good” side of this is the last thing the Internet needs is a government fairness panel. This was the FCC getting its foot in the door to regulate how the Internet works.

On the bad side, it opens the door to Comcast and AT&T doing things to give preference to business partners or blocking competitors…. For instance blocking Skype and other VOIP services or deliberately degrading the service to make it unusable. Or with Netflix or streaming TV, requiring a payment to cover the extra costs of the large amount of bandwidth (just wait until the FCC builds out that national 100 Mb/sec network to every home…
