I once was forced to land in a field in West Virginia. The family in the house next to the field took me in. He was a miner who worked to remove a vein of coal 18 inches thick. He worked on his back in the vein, picking the coal vein apart, and loading 8000 pounds of coal a day into shallow coal cars. His breakfast was a dozen eggs, a foot tall stack of pancakes, etc. His wife (a very nice and efficient lady) was on her fourth husband, the previous three having been killed in the mine.
