External explosion – the stem (the back end) of the South Korean has been lifted from 120 feet of water. There is a huge hole, consistent with an external explosion – a torpedo or a mine. The remains are now secure on a barge for closer examination and recovery of the bodies.
What South Korea does next is hard to guess.
Sorry to make this correction but………The “Stern” is the back or Aft of a ship. The “Stem” is the very most forward part of a boat or ship’s bow and is an extension of the keel itself and curves up to the wale of the boat. The stem is more often found on wooden boats or ships, but not exclusively. The stem is part of the physical structure of a wooden boat or ship that gives it strength at the critical section of the structure, bringing together the port and starboard side planks of the hull.
Not meant as criticism just point of Information from an old Marine :)
Did you mean “not”?
I think there might have been a misread somewhere in the chain of reporting. In this font, and many others, stern and stem look very much alike. To avoid confusion, I use the technical term “pointy end” instead for the bow or stem :)
I typed ster n…. probably the iPhone “autofixed” it and I didn’t notice
