Edy’s Dibs – bought these in the superm…

Edy’s Dibs – bought these in the supermarket yesterday. Contrary to what the web site says, the packaging says absolutely nothing about them being “Ice Cream”. A different web site shows the product more accurately.

The only dairy related ingredients are “Skim Milk” and “Cream” as a minor ingredient (and milk in the milk chocolate coating) . Since the legal definition of “Ice Cream” is based on milkfat content, Dibs are definitely -not- Ice Cream anything. The package calls them “creamy” frozen dairy treats. The milkfat is replaced mostly with partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. The future of ice cream is…. fake ice cream!

Here is the ingredient list for the Nestle’s Crunch version (hidden behind a nearly invisible link)

INGREDIENTS:

coating (coconut oil, sugar, palm oil, chocolate, reduced minerals whey, milk, soy lecithin, artificial vanilla flavor),

whey, sugar, corn syrup, cream, condensed skim milk, crisped rice (rice flour, sugar, malt extract, salt, partially hydrogenated cottonseed and soybean oils, monoglycerides, rice extract), skim milk, tapioca maltodextrin, Propylene Glycol Monostearate, guar gum, monoglycerides, Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, natural flavor, carrageenan, salt

If you would like to buy Propylene Glycol Monostearate in large quantities, here is a company in China that would be glad to give you a good price.
