Only the Wall Street Journal (now owned by Rupert Mordoch) had an increase in circulation in the last year among the top 25 largest papers. The industry lost around 10% of its subscribers in one year, with several of those papers also ending daily publication.
My local e-paper (funded by Foundation money from the Knight Ridder empire) bemoans the death of the newspaper business – but these are the same people who beat the drums of war against any attempt to build a few new condos or an oil change place wanting to add another service bay – and are gleefully hoping that a local developer is convicted of contributing to the campaign of the mayor (“corruption”).
Are they really this blind to cause and effect?
Yes.
But let me advance another word:
Stupid.
