Chuck Harder has left radio. Chuck was a one of a kind. He came to my attention when I was living in Western Michigan in the early 1990s – he had built up a large network of small town AM radio stations. He describes himself as a pro-USA pro-Labor old line Democrat. Much of his program content was devoted to talking about Ruby Ridge, and especially the government assault of the religious “compound” in Waco Texas. If you were looking for someone on Radio who was actually stoking the fires of anti-government feelings before the Okklahoma City bombing, this was your guy. Did I mention he’s a Democrat?
He was a big supporter of Ross Perot in 1996 – for a while, he and Pat Choate were buddies. As UPI was going into bankruptcy, Harder made an effort to try to take over UPI, but that didn’t work out. He hated the Clintons with a passion – both because of Waco and especially NAFTA and their support for Globalism. He also focused a lot on the Clintons and their supposed connections with drug smuggling in the Mena, Arkansas airport. And of course the Vince Foster “Suicide”…..
Some time later, he was involved in a vehicle accident that left him unable to walk, and he has been in a wheel chair for a number of years. His program focus turned away from politics and more to disability rights at which point it became only an internet based show and one or two “fringe” low power stations.
So one more of the voices of my past has gone silent (he isn’t dead – just gave up tryring to stay on the air)
As the phrase goes… “if chucking something at a person doesn’t elicit a response… Chuck Harder.” (Sorry, I couldn’t resist.)
