Bill Kurtis and radio – you probably kno…

Bill Kurtis and radio – you probably know him from TV especially if you have lived in Chicago. Tallgrass radio is partly owned by him and was just seized by the bank for non-payment of the loans. One pattern I’ve noticed about the failures have been many of them are groups of stations that were already failing or had minimal prospects for growth – owned by out of state owners who don’t have roots where the stations are. Tallgrass was on my list of “this company seems to be derelict” companies based on the web sites. Their stations are out in the Western great plains area in tiny towns. A small town radio station can maybe survive if they have a small staff working for next to nothing, but if there is no onsite ownership, it has little chance of survival.
