The BOP is bent (not surprising) – there is a level mounted on the top (it’s yellow) that confirmed it isn’t level – the CUT diamond cutter is grasping the the pipe “crooked” in order to make the cut flat with the ground, not square with the pipe – the riser needs to go straight up, not at an angle… it could be August….
Some speculation also that there is a leak down in the casing and the oil is now leaking through the ground and coming up at a second location about a mile away…. the only way to stop that is the relief wells and plugging the entire shaft (which may explain why they have to go down to the very bottom)
The video feed is staring at the dark ocean – if I were being threatened with criminal charges, I would do the same thing :)
One of the news networks reports they have switched to doing a “rough cut” first to get the pressure off the casing, and then use the diamond saw to finish it with a straight cut….
