The question nobody is asking (yet) – what happens if the Gulf of Mexico was hit with a moderate earthquake under the current scenario? We have a drilling ship tethered to a mile long piece of pipe cobbled to the stub of what was an oil well. It would take very little to rip the BOP off the ocean floor and probably much worse.
I’m a big fan of Murphy’s law. There was a 7.7 earthquake in the Pacific about an hour ago.
