Melvin Greene was not the only surprise in SC – the Republican winner in the Governor primary was Nikki Haley, and she has a big polling lead at the moment. Her Americanized name masks her origins – she is an Indian American (India as in the country in Asia) whose parents belong to the Sikh religion. Her birth name was Nimrata Randhawa…
Fellow Republican State Senator Jake Knotts gives his reaction to her victory:
(He was just joking – ha ha)
What’s interesting about Haley is not her ethnic or religious background, but her very conservative stance and Horatio Alger story background. Haley is the embodiment of everything Ronald Reagan used to talk about, and this is what makes her such a threat to tired-old Republicans like Jake Knotts as well as leftists of all stripes.
Jon Stewart’s (last night’s Daily Show) take on Al Greene winning the SC primary was one of the funniest comedy routines I’ve seen in a while.
Yeah, it was good. Almost as good as the story itself.
Oops, Alvin
