One ship in the convoy was from Israel.
One account thinks this has something to do with Gaza and the Iran sponsored “aid flotilla”. That doesn’t make a lot of sense – Gaza is on the Mediterrean – the convoy went through the Suez in the opposite direction – going away from Gaza. Interdicting the flotilla when it is 100s of miles away from Gaza would be fairly indefensible, and you wouldn’t need an aircraft carrier to do that.
The other speculation is this is preparations for an attack on Iran.
What a warmonger this Obama guy turns out to be.
I am a little behind but………… As a former Marine I can tell you that, as the US Navy Sixth Fleet rotates it’s task forces in and out of the Mediterranean, many of the the ships especially those that are designated to Support and carry Marine AAF’s or MEU’s often travel through the Suez into the Red Sea. Most of the time it is the smaller LHD Carriers (ie. USS Iwo Jima) and their support vessels that make up these task forces. However it is really not that out of the ordinary for a larger CVN Carrier to pass through and participate in exercises being held by Sixth Fleet MEU’s

The propoganda angle slipped into the story was that Egypt is being pressured to block the Iranian “aid” ship from going through the canal because of the Gaza blockade
Aha…. Now I see why the Drudge headline
