This is really disturbing. KSL-AM/FM in Salt Lake City is owned by Bonneville, which is the for-profit corporation that is wholly owned by the non-profit Latter Day Saints Church (the Mormons). Bonneville also owns WFED and WTOP in Washington, DC – useful if you’re trying to influence legislation in Congress, and get government contracts. Bonneville is very active in the NAB and plays an active role in FCC policy making discussions, like the Fairness Doctrine.
What is being reported (at radio-info.com) is KSL dropping Hannity is the result of some sort of a new moral conduct code they have drawn up and required all on-air hosts to sign. Hannity is the only weekday syndicated program carried by KSL.
Baonneville News/Talk stations and who they carry:
KTAR-FM (Phoenix, AZ): Glenn Beck, Dave Ramsey
KTTH-AM (Seattle, WA) Washinton Times’ Morning News, Glenn Beck, Lars Larson, John Gibson, Dr Laura
KIRO-FM (Tacoma, WA) Dirk Van, WSJ This morning, Allen Hunt, Phil Hendrie
Their music stations (with the exception of one in LA that I think they lease out) all play very benign oldies, country or classic rock music.
Observations: At some point, Glenn Beck and the LDS church are going to have “issues” with each other. This new “code” may be why Beck is getting more and more religious in his program content.
Fortunately for Phil Hendrie, good Mormons are alseep by 1 AM and they have no idea what his show is about.. Perhaps they heard he frequently has on ministers as guests.
