Divine providence vs Manifest Destiny

So would anyone support the idea of moving Glenn Beck from Political Opinion to Religious Teaching?

Glenn is going multiple hours without taking a call, playing to the cameras (“take a look at this”, “is that camera 4 behind me?”) and this topic of Divine Providence vs Manifest Destiny is several weeks old. I haven’t listened to a complete hour the entire week. I want to like the show, but the preaching is past my threshold. The more Glenn wants to tie the United States to 18th Century religious thought, the less I can support his vision for restoring America, If we really believed that, we should be distributing Bibles in Iraq and Afghanistan and fight the Real War.

18th century religious thought kick started the American Revolution.

      This isn’t the 18th century.

One can make the same argument against liberal ideology by stating that “it’s not the 19th century” either. The miserable working conditions of the industrial revolution that inspired Marx and Dickens are pretty much long gone- except perhaps in certain parts of China and N. Korea.

The principles of the New Testament, the Magna Carta, and the U.S. Declaration of Independence are timeless no matter what century we live in.

        • Art Stone says:

The Declaration of Independence has no legal standing in U.S. Law. Neither does the Magna Carta or the Bible.

Glenn thinks this country is being taken over by evil Godless leaders and I tend to agree.

Sorry, I didn’t realize we were restricting the discussion to “U.S. Law”. I thought your question was whether to move Glenn Beck from “political opinion” to “religious teaching”. Both categories generate emotional discussions that involve core principles and philosophy. With respect to U.S. law, it’s pretty clear by their actions that most everyone in the White House and the majority of Congress now believe that even the U.S. Constitution no longer has official standing as U.S. law- it’s just a collection of irritatingly irrelevant restrictions written by a bunch of 18th century zealots- many of whom believed in Divine Providence.

But since you own the website you get to put Mr. Beck under whatever category you please. And you also get the last word! How’s that for fan compromise? :-)
