“Buy American” – President Obama got a lot of heat during the election. When he pandered to the UAW and other labor unions to “Buy American”, Canada and Mexico cried “foul”. He sent an envoy to Canada to tell them off the record that he didn’t really mean that, which then leaked out. But none of that mattered – he has a great smile, and is promising us Hope and Change.
Well, it’s back. The terms of the GM bailout / bankruptcy include provisions prohibiting importing things. “Buy American” and back, and Canada is angry again. Since Canada is putting up $9 billion to help save GM, they have a lot of clout.
