Anyone using Chrome for testing? Actually, I’ve begun using ChromePlus, which is based on the open-source Chromium. The earlier versions didn’t play too nice with pop-up players for me, but something seems to have improved and I’m loving the speed. One oddity – all of the CC players will give me a warning that it couldn’t connect with the stream, but no matter if I click OK or cancel, the stream starts up just fine.

Yeah, I just switched to Chrome a few days ago, and I really like how fast it is (esp. compared to memory-hog Firefox). The error message appears to be a glitch in the Javascript, either the way CC wrote it or however Chrome renders it.
I’ve had no real problems with streaming anything yet.
Robert: I’ve read several articles about memory leak problems with Chrome. Have you experienced any memory problems yet?
After running it for several hours, I haven’t noticed any degradation as I might with Firefox. A lot of that may be due to tabs in Chrome all run as separate processes. So, if I’m testing a station, I’ll have 3 processes open (browser, tab and player.) As I open and close tabs/players, so are processes closed and opened. With Fx, any little memory leaks just build up over time. I still prefer Fx for everyday surfing, but Chrome is now my go-to for SRG.
Thanks for the feedback. While I’m more than a little concerned about Google’s privacy issues, I think I might try it.
If you’re that concerned about Google, Apple’s Safari browser is based on the same engine, so you’re basically dealing with the same browser but a different shell.
That’s one of the reasons I picked ChromePlus over Chrome; on their home page (chromeplus.org), they make the claim: Removed Chrome background communications.
The other reason is Chrome doesn’t give you the option of choosing an install directory.
First, THANK YOU for starting a topic :) You really are encouraged to do that. If it won’t let you start a thread, that’s because I didn’t set you as an author yet, but most people should be.
I have chrome from when it first came out – mainly to check it for compatibility to make sure it wasn’t doing wildly bizarre things with the page layout. It seems to render pretty reasonably. I need more experience with doing CSS page layout better. Because all of the pages are created “on the fly” by php, it’s a lot of manual work to get the forrmatting right.
I think it’d be impressive if it could be embedded in a CMS script (WP, Joomla, etc.) With all the tabular data here, a CSS layout may be a major undertaking :)
