Minerva Ohio is a village of 4,000 people located in the rural farmland of Eastern Ohio near Canton Ohio on US 30 in Amish country. The Village council has 4 Councilmen and Mayor.
A sudden opening happened in the job of Stark County Treasurer due to some corruption problems and parties had to choose candidates quickly to put on the ballot. Last Wednesday, the Stark County Republican Executive committe met with the people who want to run in November. Among the five or so people who showed up was one Phil Davison, whose entire political experience consists of being on the village council of a place that takes about two minutes to drive through end to end. He won his seat in 2009 by receiving 267 votes in a non-partisan election. (Actually, that’s wrong – through magic, that village is spread over 3 different counties – the 267 is only one county’s votes)
He made an ass out of himself – nobody would dispute that. Huffington Post, Democratic Undeground and all the usual suspects (now up to the Washington Post) are now posting this over and over characterizing him as a typical GOP nutcase. I see no evidence that any of them even made an effort to confirm that the man exists or the video is genuine. (It is). Compounding the stupidity, he appeared on Good Morning America where he let it be known he had never heard of YouTube. Did I mention this is Amish country in rural Ohio? (he’s not Amish)
The one thing you won’t read in the echosphere is why this job suddenly became vacant. August 23rd, the Stark County Commision terminated Gary Ziegler from the job after $2.9 million showed up missing, most of it stolen by his aide. Mr. Ziegler is a Democrat, which you probably already guessed.
Thanks again Art for the “rest of the story.”
So, if the theme of these blogs are ALL Repubs are “nutcases”, then by that logic we can make the case that ALL Dems are crooks.
The difference btwn. a blogger and a true journalist? The journalist would expose EVERYTHING they uncovered.
So I think that makes you a muckraker Art! ;}
First I need a $500 million IPO to hire a caterer.
ICC, that sort-of reminds me of the psych major who in the 1940’s decided to write a paper on strip-tease cabarets of the era. He saw that a very large percentage of males seated in the front row were bald and came to the conclusion that strip-tease was a major cause for pattern baldness in men.
