Cab crushes crowd

So what would cause a cab in San Diego to run down a crowd of 25 people leaving a bar at closing time and beating up its driver?

The first and only time I heard the story on the radio, it was framed as the police upset that the crowd had beat up the cab driver? Someone noticed a bomb-like bag on the seat.

So was the driver a member of a religion that prohibits drinking? Was there a racial or cultural motivation or did the cab just aim at a crowd of humans as an act of speciesism or was it just an accident? If it wasn’t an accident, knowing a motivation would be something I hope reporters would attempt to discover and report.

Let’s dig for details. The cab was from the Emerald cab company, so he was obviously Irish. (sarcasm)) The nightclub is in the “gaslight” district in SanDiego is named the “Stingaree”. The 42 (or 48) year old cab driver was not charged and the police will not release his identity, since it was only a traffic accident. The cab driver used a pair of scissors to confront one of the owners. The crowd may have been provoked by the driver trying to back up and leave the scene. He told police he blacked out before the crash, which was at about 15 MPH

Looking at the web site, the Stingeroo appears to be a high end night club that caters to affluent white people. At least some of the people in the club were military.
