I remember the YAF as the Young Americans for Freedom, which was the Ronald Reagan Youth Corps, a group of dogmatic young men who would have been glad to have Barry Goldwater as President.
Apparently, the YAF doesn’t like that the libertarians are taking over “their” movement at CPAC and have kicked Ron Paul off their advisory board. Ron Paul has this odd notion that we shouldn’t squander wealth we don’t have building up the military to get involved in foreign entanglements. Ron Paul thought the YAF was defunct.
[Somewhat Off-Topic] Are you suggesting the YAF was incorrect if their contention is that the nation would have been far better off with Barry Goldwater as president instead of Lyndon Johnson? There are a bunch of names on the Vietnam memorial who (if they were alive to offer an opinion) would likely side with the YAF on that question.
Of course Ron Paul and the Libertarians would have never involved us in Vietnam to start with.
My memories of Vietnam are mostly the Nixon phase as I was approahcing 18 and it was becoming personal. I watched Nixon try to actually win the war – bombing Hanoi, mining the harbor in Haiphong, pounding the hell out of the Ho Chi Minh trail and forcing the Vietnamese to prepare to defend their country after we left. The Democrats and media did everything to block every one of his moves. I can’t imagine that Barry Goldwater would have had any more success without a fundamental culutural revolution.
The line-up at CPAC this year was like seeing the circus come to town.
Donald Trump? REALLY?
I have this nagging feeling that Donald Trump isn’t the Conservative he purports to be, beyond the number of ex-wives and running gambling casinos, but I haven’t put my finger on it yet.
I’m right there with you on that thought.
Interesting, isn’t it, that at a time when there is no viable Repub candidate emerging from the rabble he has suddenly found his conservative roots?
A veritable Winston Churchill of conservative values.
What do Bob Dole, John McCain and Ron Paul have in common? Think of a small box of raisins. Ron Paul should partake of as much freedom as any of us, despite being in my view a thoroughly unelectable, divisive twit.
