Sports Improvements

Due to overwhelming demand, I’ve been tweaking the way sports affiliations are done.

The point is not that people are going to stream sports on radio, since most stations aren’t allowed to stream sports – the purpose is to alert people to why the “stream is down” or they’re hearing Clark Howard or Dave Ramsey reruns – and not report them as errors or “ID show” and make incorrect updates to the regular programming schedules.

Since there are a couple days left in the regular College Basketball season, I got around to finally extracting affiliate lists for most of them. The NCAA web site pulled down their links to colleges in the middle of when I was originally building the database, and it was a low priority todo task.

The more important change is that the “What’s the main sports team on this station” is now “day of the week” aware. College Football games will only appear on Saturdays, NFL Games on Sundays, High School football on Fridays and NASCAR only on Saturdays and Sundays. This is all now done on the server automagically and doesn’t require doing anything other than flipping a switch when the season starts for a sport.

The default for sports is you don’t see them – if you want to actually see the thing that changed, you have to go to Preferences and turn on “Show Sports Teams”

After visiting way too many college sports sites in the past two days, I’m now firmly convinced more people are employed in publishing Sports News than “real” news.
