Joy Browne’s 15 minutes of fame

Dr Laura left radio at the end of the year, and people wondered if Joy Browne would pick up the audience of Dr Laura, since they both are women doing personal advice shows. The answer is a resounding “NO”.

Joy Browne is syndicated by WOR radio network, which has a really feeble syndication operation – a pet doctor, an herbal cure doctor, Steve Malzberg, travel show, and Joy Browne.

Joy is a devout feminist, a New Yorker, a proud liberal and her “advice” is generally that all behaviour is acceptable except saying “no” or adhering to a religious code of morality and saying something is wrong.

As of late, her show has evolved into “All about Joy” – talking about politics, what she did today, stories in the news, entertainment, etc… WOR doesn’t even carry the show live.

Joy Browne has picked up a few new affiliates, but after about a week, things plummeted. Listenership here is just slightly more than before Dr Laura moved to Sirius/XM.

If Rush Limbaugh retires some day, his audience is not going to start listening to Mike Malloy. You would have to be smokin’ wacky tobaccey to think that – but it seems that may be the case.

I listened to JB a few times, on KPAM, I think it was. My arteries hardened in fewer than five minutes.
