Both the Housatonic and Naugatuck rivers are flooding upstream. They meet at a city called Derby. The upstream levels are at least as high as 1924. The area got a lot of snow thus winter – especially inland.
It’s now in the 50s at 5 AM and raining hard – everything is melting at once. I live about 90 feet above the river, so I’m not at risk of flooding – but I could see power and phone becoming an issue if I vanish.
I hope the city employees know or remember how to shut the gates on the flood control dams. They were built after a catastrophic flood in the 1950s that was less strong than this one. Time in “the valley” is measured by how many years since “the flood”
