Ajdabiya is the last remaining city between the government troops and the breakaway capital of Benghazi. The rebels are declaring retreat has been their strategy all along – any minute now their Arab brothers will throw up that no-fly zone.
Ajdabiya has a 4 lane road to the North that completely bypasses the need to go through the city. Unless they want to waste ammo on a pointless fight, the government troops should be at the outskirts of Benghazi by the end of today.
If the French hurry up, they still might be able to arrive for the surrender ceremony.
I suspect after this is over, Qadaffi having proven his effectiveness as an Arab Warrior probably still will step down and work to reconcile the country so it can return to normal. I doubt he really wants to murder all the people who are unhappy. Other things in his past suggest that isn’t what motivates him.
