The Murzuq oil fields

Way out in the middle of the Sahara desert, there are an estimated 2 billion barrels of recoverable oil in the Murzuq basin (overlooking for the moment how decaying organic matter got 8000 feet under a desert)… Important to understanding the “Big Picture” of what is going on in Libya is the historical oil wells and wealth of Libya are in Eastern Libya, controlled by Benghazi. The Western Oil and gas fields and the new offshore oil drilling are funnelled through the area near Tripoli.

Time line:

1995 – first discovery of oil

2008 – Repsol (Spain) signs an agreement to produce oil from the Murzuq basin

December, 2010 – Turkey announces 7 out of 10 wells are successful

February 1, 2011 – Turkey announces success in a well it is drilling for the Libyan government

Feburary 19, 2011 – riots break out in Libya

February 23, 2011 – Repsol announces a new discovery in Murzuq desert

… Hmmm… I wonder if perhaps there was once a great Flood that destroyed every living thing on the planet?

Less than 10,000 years ago?… that created 8,000 feet of sedimentary rock or volcanic ash?

I like the explanation that as the sea levels rose at the end of the last ice age that at some point the ocean broke through a land bridge and flooded a large area of land somewhere in the middle east and that’s what the “Flood” was. The story of “Noah’s flood” predates the Bible. It’s similar to the story that Paul Bunyan and his Blue Ox Babe created the Grand Titon Mountains by playing with each other.

And Babe was a huge ox. And they played for quite a few days. I wonder where they are buried?
