The liberal portion of the Democratic Party strongly supports US involvement in Libya.
If you poke around Libyan web sites for a while, it is very clear the government is structured around the Soviet Socialist ideal – government control of food, housing, electricity, education, communications, etc – making this support of Obama all the more ironic.
As Rush Limbaugh recently pointed out, the libs excel at getting America entangled in wars where we have absolutely no national interests at stake whatsoever- Vietnam, Kosovo, Somalia, and now Libya. I guess he’s assuming that Afghanistan was justified because of the 9/11 attacks, and Iraq because of … ? I still haven’t quite gotten that one figured out except that if we hadn’t acted, Israel was about to, and they would have been forced to use the nukes that they’re not supposed to have.
I do wish we could get a president who had the Constitutional fortitude to fall back to the old Monroe Doctrine policy that served us so well until FDR began playing games with his European friends in the 1930s. We’re going to have to close many of the permanent foreign military bases and bring the troops home if we’re ever going to get the deficit under control. That will make a lot of Air Force and Army officers unhappy because of reduced opportunity for command, but the Navy will be empowered because they’ll be the only game in town outside the US territories. Some of the savings can be put into new weapons systems and better training for the reduced-size military. The rest should go back to the taxpayers either directly or via reduced inflation.
I believe Rush also noted this “kinetic action” in Libya has the lowest poll approval rating ever, even beating Kosovo (the lowest to now).
Others note the neighboring Arabs who wanted this are now absent. Wonder if they were around long enough to write a check?
If Khaddafi survives this, he will only lean more toward Muslim fundamentalism in Libya.
Which fits right in with Barry Osama’s plans.
Tripoli and Benghazi were crammed together into one country by England in the 1950s. The Eastern and Western oil fields are entirely separate except that the Eastern part is dependent on Natural gas from the West.
I could see a settlement that goes something like this:
– Gadaffi goes to Italy to live in an old castle
– the country is split into two with Serte being the divding point
– Western Libya pulls out of Ajdabiya
– Civilians who live in either half get a period of time to move to the half of the country they want to be in
– nomadic tribes just keep wandering between them as they please
– the Sovereign fund and holdings of the Libyan central bank get split into half
– Eastern Libya spends their money on Euopean sports cars and condos in Dubai
