Who is Libya?

Hillary Clinton has a great answer – Libya is the “People of Libya”

You may have heard that Qatar announced that it recognizes the “Interim” government of Libya in Benghazi as the “legitimate” government of Libya, although there has been no vote of the country’s citizens to validate that presumption.

What you could have missed is the “back story”.   The “Rebels” think they may be in a position to export oil shortly, and they plan to sell the oil to Qatar who will refine the oil and sell it to Europe for a handsome profit.

But perhaps you’re thinking “Hold on a second – all of Libya’s assets are frozen, and there is a ban on exports of oil and importation of arms.

The E.U. and the United Nations and the United States are now in disagreement about what “Sanctions on Libya” means.     The E.U. says “Libya means all of Libya – both sides”.  The Clinton administration says the sanctions only apply to “the bad guys”, and the “rebels” should be free to buy arms, sell oil, kill civilians, hire Beyonce and Mariah Carey to give concerts, smother puppies and enter into 99 year oil and gas leases at $10 a barrel.

So if “Libya is the people of Libya”, and the sanctions do not apply to the people in Benghazi, does that mean she understands the “rebels” in Benghazi are not Libyans?

Or the other equally unworkable explanation – any person living in Libya who supports Qadaffi’s government is not a person.    Dehumanizing the enemy is a sure sign of impending evil.
