The markets are eerily quiet today. Stock market is down about 1.5%, but interest rates, currency and commodities are almost as if the markets aren’t open.

Dear Mr. Stone: So what do you think the quiet means? I’m going to watch the news at 4 p.m. (Eastern) re the Chrysler bankruptcy and the guy from Indiana who is challenging the lousy deal the bond holders got. I think this case could be HUGE, with mindboggling consequences (intended or not) for the whole economy.
Well, we’ll find out tomorrow. The cynic in me suggests that someone will give Indiana’s pension plan $6 million to “just go away”. but the wild card in this has been showing up in the news the past few days – a Chrysler bankruptcy would void pending product liability lawsuits against the company. Trial lawyers have a stake in this too, and they have a lot of clout Ultimately, they may end up being the ones to squash this deal.
Remember the movie Blazing Saddles? At one point, a character points a gun at his head and takes himself hostage, threatening to kill himself. That’s Chrsyer. They’re saying any delay will cost them $100 million a week in losses. If that’s true, why again is it we want to save them?
Heh… I’m not the only one that has had that thought.

Loved the movie analogy. And it fits!
Oops, my bad. They ‘re “losing” $100 million per DAY.
