I have been coming to this site for many years and look forward to your blog and views on current events. I also have taken advantage of this resource to find things to listen to. I have no idea the time and effort it must take to maintain a website like this so I understand wanting to move on.
I just want to say thanks for your efforts and wish there was another alternative. Maybe someone will take the bull by the horns and put SRG back up after Friday and figure a way to make it a viable venture worth the time and effort.
Fred Higgins
Guys, couldn’t you SELL the website?
Is it just money? Perhaps there is someway we could support the site by donating? I would love to help out such a great resource! Maybe put some ads on the site?
I will greatly miss SRG. It has been one of the most useful websites I have found. SRG by far is the best site to find what to listen to. I am sure I cannot even imagine how much time and effort is required to keep SRG up and running. Maybe someone would take up this cause? Placing ads on the site is fine by me if money is an issue.
Art, I am hopeful that you will keep blogging.
Thank you Art Stone for the seven years of SRG!
Fred- By the way, you mention that few people read the blogs. I saved the link years ago, not sure how I found it. It is not obvious from the home page (until today) that there is a blog.
Just sayin’
Fred Higgins
People don’t generally arrive at the home page. It’s very hard to miss on the show pages or what’s on now pages – unless they were turned off at some point (check your preferences).
Many people were using the “List of all radio stations” page which didn’t show the blog links. When I did briefly add them there, I got immediate pushback that I was putting “ads” on the page.
Also, the What’s New link has pointed to the blog for around 6 months or so.
I have to concur with ‘fhiggins’… never noticed a blog link.
Also, I didn’t see a link to grab the other database tables.
Got the radio station table (14,000+ records), but where is the relational data (csv) of show/syndication/schedule?
This blog will be missed, as will SRG as a one-stop site for common sense and radio links. Your passion for the dying form of media known as radio has been appreciated. For what it’s worth, your blog has given me a new way of looking at the truth. Even though I’d thought I was one to see through the BS, your analyses have shown me just how far much I didn’t see or understand.
Yours is a rare gift, my friend. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I am literally stunned! I’ve been listening to this site for years. It was a LIFESAVER (or at least, MINDsaver) when i had a crappy retail job and the economy tanked. I had to sit there (often alone, small store) for up to 12 hours with hardly any customers and through this site and it’s links, I VASTLY educated myself on politics. It was just as valued when the company folded and I was unemployed for an extended period. I was pretty well-educated before (75+ hours of Grad school , Masters +), but I am certainly much more worldly, THANKS TO YOU! Your site was the BEST streaming guide BY FAR and I will miss you more than you can know. I agree with the other posters here that I would be more than satisfied if the site continued with ads. Heck, I wouldn’t care if were wallpapered with ads!
Either way, I (and I’m sure MANY people worldwide (I used to always talk you up in comments in English & European newspapers) can’t thank you enough for all of the work that you did. I don’t think you know how important you really are……
Say It isn’t so. The best website on the internet !
don’t know what I will do now. , How do you save these links? I hate radio station websites, this was so cool to have everything at your fingertips. bummer
Let’s say you wanted a list of Rush Limbaugh’s streams. You would search or otherwise go to the page for him, preferably while the show is on the air (or when you usually listen to it):
http://streamingradioguide.com/radio-show.php?showid=422
Then in Internet Explorer, from the menus at the top choose File then Save As… and save it somewhere you can find it later – desktop would work, or create a folder. Then close the browser, and click on your “Saved web page”, and it should open up a copy of the page as of when you saved it, including the graphics, etc… but the clock won’t be moving and it will be the time of day you saved it.
The station links should take you to the station’s web site, and the listen button should play, even after the web site is gone. (the status at the bottom should show the station’s actual URL instead of listens.php or redirects.php. It’s probably I’ve missed one or two, but I’m going through the pages and fixing them up.
If you’re using Firefox or Linux, you’re on your own… :)
What of the “Judgement Day” countdown?
Someone noticed it! ;)
Would it be too much to ask that you keep the guide up through the weekend? I’m sure many of us would like the opportunity to bookmark our weekend favorites.
If you go to the “What’s on now” page:
http://streamingradioguide.com/streaming-radio-stations.php
You can change the “current view” to the weekend – and it will show you the programs on then (there won’t be any listen links, but you can at least save the list of stations and times)
There are very few shows people listen to on the weekend:
Kim Komando:
http://streamingradioguide.com/radio-show.php?show=276
Bob Brinker:
http://streamingradioguide.com/radio-show.php?show=51
Bill Cunningham
http://streamingradioguide.com/radio-show.php?show=5195
You can find a list of all the active syndicated hosts along the right side
I listen to Bill on occasion. This one’s pretty good …
Twilight Zone:
http://streamingradioguide.com/radio-show.php?showid=1408
Like everyone else, I’m very upset about this, but not at all surprised. I think I’ve been here for about 6 years and can’t imagine my days without it…but you deserve a life.
There really is no other listing quite like this one…I know because I looked over the weekend.
Great, great job Fred…we’ll miss both you and the site.
I first came here to find conservative talk show streams, because the local station has some “issues”. I found them, and the smaller markets many times had better streams than the bigger markets. And life was good.
Then I tried the blogs, and I was hooked. A forum where I could say what I thought about many topics, and good topics they were. It was a way to blow off steam when the whole world around me was going nutso. To hear other SMART people who didn’t believe what the Media-Govt. complex was ramming down our throats. I work with many smart people, but a lot of them actually believe the world political news. So, once again, the blogs were good so life was good.
Now another era is passing. The streams will be missed, the blogs will be missed, and you will be missed Art.
I sure wish you could have “monetized” this thing.
I sure am going to miss this site. Is there anything we can do to help keep it going?
For God’s sake Art!
You must not, cannot stop this website!!!
Please….
Please Art think about this. I thought this was your way of telling all of us what Atlas Shrugged is all about: What if the doers stop doing??? I get it, I understand.
Can’t you delay the departure so as to find someone to take this over? Please Art! Take another month and pass this skill set onto someone who can then try to fill your shoes.
Take adds, we all will click them all every damn day, you will make a fortune (well earned)
You cannot just LEAVE! You have a responsibility here, people who DEPEND on you. For God sake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please, sit down, have a beer and think just a little before you jump.
God, I am going to miss this site.
Art Stone! We will not let this happen, what will it take?
Please, please, PLEASE!
Dave
Hooked on internet talk radio, with only ONE AM station in the area for talk.
Doomed to infomercials
Sad, very sad…
Upset, very upset
This had better not be a joke, a chance to make a point for Ayn Rand
Damnit Art….
Maybe “Art Stone” can be like “Art Bell”. Art Bell passed the reigns over to some new hosts, but still keeps in touch by guest hosting from time to time, and has the “somewhere in time” flashbacks. The question is, who will be our “George Noory”, or “Ian Punnett”? oh wait, the chupacabras are following me again…
Man, I hope not! Art Bell “passed the reigns” to the wrong person. It quickly became the Hoagland show… “real” Art Bell fans stopped listening years ago.
The only thing keeping C2C ratings alive is Art Bell’s occasional ‘guest’ hosting, his ‘Somewhere in Time’ archives, and George Knapp two Sundays a month.
Otherwise, C2C is a worn out retread. Lord save us from a similar fate…
The only thing keeping C2C ratings alive is Arbitron stops doing the ratings at midnight.
Wow… it’s even worse than I thought? ;-)
His main competition these days is Phil Hendrie (1-4 AM ET) and Phil gets more [real] callers.
I had a chance to try a radio show in that time slot on KFNX 1100 AM in Phoenix a few years ago… lived in the mountains and the drive would have been too much, but almost did it because C2C seemed ‘ripe’ and was losing ground with listeners.
BTW, anyone know whatever happened to David Gold? Last time I heard him was in Phoenix (via Dallas, TX) around 1998.
That’s funny… maybe not intended so, but it is. Brightened my AM!
what are you talking about? C2C has the largest syndication of any show other than Limbaugh, if not more.
A 100% share of everyone listening to radio at 3AM still wouldn’t buy you a ham sandwich
Arbitron doesn’t include midnight to 6AM in the ratings for a station. Even if they were counted, the people who listen at that hour are not the people advertisers want to reach unless they’re selling magnets to clean your water pipes, gold with 100% markup or itch powders.
Perhaps Art Bell was great in the old days, but my introduction to him was the night he told his audience about his wife’s death. A short time later (a month or two?) he married (paid for) some young chickie (can you imagine her horror on her wedding night?) and they soon had their anchor baby, who was born, of course, in the States. Bell is a tired, tiresome old man. George Noory is much better.
I can see how you would feel that way… though he was introduced to his ‘new’ wife via her sister’s husband.
Art Bell built his show from the ground up, and had a long history in radio (including HAM). From bumper music to guests, Noory simply doesn’t have the knack for the genre and attracts an entirely different (IQ) audience than Art.
I’ve tried, but Noory is just too simplistic and boring…
The annoyance about Noory for me (I’m a special case”) is he lets guests and callers go on and on endlessly without challenging them or asking questions or focusing what they’re saying…. the result is that when I’m trying to confirm a test, or identify the topic, it’s not unusual for 5 minutes to go by without hearing Noory’s voice.
Indeed… the most infamous example was when he tried to host a roundtable of 5 guests, lost control, got mad, and literally pulled the plug (years ago). It was “dead air”, the ultimate radio sin.
At some point, I truly believe that he started doing a fully scripted show, and merely reads through a list of questions.
BTW, thank you for the gret tip on Phil Hendrie… I’m listening to him right now.
MUCH more entertaining! La Raza and ‘latinos’ are “going at it” tonight. LOL
I’ll join in with the rather rational comments – as usual – from Wetsern MA…Thanks for everything, Fred. I’ve enjoyed being a site user and tried to make a small contribution of time and testing. With what I hoped to be a salient thought added via comment from time to time. I, for one, enjoyed the blog and checked it often.
I’ll miss the site too. And might like to look into possibly learning how to keep it, or a modified version of it, running. It may be within my abilities with some additional learning. It may not.
Again, kudos. This has been one of the most useful sites on the internet. If you do decide to hang it up for good, many thanks and best wishes!
I am seriously bummed. Thank you so much for the years of faithful service to us!
Wow… I took this site for granted, and now it will be gone?
Is there any way to keep it open? Paypal donation?
Again, thank you very much for this great service you’ve provided to us.
Here is an alternative, but a very poor one that pales in comparison to the inimitable streamingradioguide.com!
http://radiotime.com/program/p_20626/The_Savage_Nation.aspx
Art: I liked the “report connection” function and status. Are you a former military radio troop?
Streamingradioguide.com has been a daily destination for me for most of its existance. What Google is to general Internet content, streamingradioguide.com has been for streaming radio. It was a huge value to know that at any time or place, one could have an instant directory of every available radio program of any type. It allowed one to never lose track of favorites and to easily try out something new. I’m sure that it was a burden for Art to maintain on a volunteer basis simply for the love of radio. What he created though waz something of great value to me and, I expect, a lot of other people as well. I wish there was some way we could translate how important the site is to us into a way to preserve it. You’ve done great work on the site for a long time Art, and I just ask that you consider ways to preserve what you’ve created. Thank you for years of information and entertainment. It will be sorely missed.
I can’t imagine a world without streaming radio guide. It has been a part of my life for years. I have used it when travelling. I have friends who left the country on business for extended periods and used it to stay connected with home and the news. I wish it would not go. Thanks for the the years of pleasure. God knows how I will miss it.
Thank you for providing a great service for all these years. Really relied heavily on your service. Understanding at all times the effort you put in and at this point would never second guess your choice to move on. Like everyone , certainly an crossing my fingers that someone may pick up the torch and carry it forward. – Thanks!
Thank you for doing all of this. It is a great site. It has given me much to enjoy. I will miss it. I will also miss your blog. I have read it at least several times a week, but never commented, AFAIK. I can’t say anymore cause I’m having some (unrelated) personal issues and can’t concentrate enough to say anymore but this: I will miss the site, and by extension, your presence. Best Wishes.
My apologies for the poor humor.
Thank you Fred, your work was appreciated. Good luck using your talent elsewhere. This site is truly amazing (and will go down in history as such)….
Well, I don’t know what to say.
Is there anytime you might make this a subscription? I would pay $5 a month – maybe $10 to have access to your site.
If 100 people did that, it would be $1000 a month. After taxes, that would be, like, $550 a mo….oh. i see…nevermind :(.
It’s definitely a prototype for this kind of service.
Thanks.
Echo the post asking if you could possibly move the close date to Sunday nite, so we can bookmark weekend favorites –
thanks so much for having made this place possible, and wonderful! :)
Well, I’m sorry to see it end. I only discovered it a couple of years ago but I enjoyed it so much it was my homepage. Thanks again for the time, it will be missed.
I was so shocked to see that you will be closing this site. It was one I used everyday, sometimes 3 or 4 times a day. You will be sorely missed, would you reconsider not closing the site? It’s a shame.
Thank you for providing this service for the last ….years……Aloha
Its been fun and informative. Sorry to see it all go away.
Wow, I’m beginning to understand how much has gone into this site as I save the info you have created. You will be sorely missed but this is just another reminder that not all good things last.
Good night Art Stone….and thanks.
A little piece of information – because I disabled the redirects and logging, it is no longer possible to “test” anything for those of you who might give it a try belatedly.
I’ve had time to improve that – there are now “Test this” links that allow you to test even if you have tracking turned off.
Your posts were so much more informative and eye-opening than other sites. It’s a sad day.
I haven’t decided to stop doing the blog, but frankly I get so little feedback on it that’s it probably not worth doing. After 2,400 posts over several years and the earlier blogs during the 2008 crisis as it was happening – I can’t point to an example of where something I said was linked to by another blog or news site or repeated anywhere else. A dozen people read the message, go back to watching American Idol and that’s the end of it.
I rationalize it that maybe some day what I wrote will be the Anne Frank diary explaining what happened to some future generation… but mostly I realize that my words are just grains of sand in a very big ocean
Dear Fred,
if you are accepting votes..i vote in favor of you continuing your blog….i also would vote…given the opportunity…for you continuing streamingradioguide.com as well…..it is a very valuable source…
your above comment about the limited feedback you receive and the apparent conclusion you reached (i.e., linking feedback=value) and that may be a factor in deciding whether or not you continue your blog, prompted me to act…i just registered with your site so that i might post a comment to respond to you….i wish to let you know that i speak for myself…(but perhaps others have similar sentiments as well)….to me your blog posts have value…i (and perhaps others) just never told you so….i gained information, insight, perspective, humor, unique thoughts, and more from your blog…i absorbed from your blog….yet, along my path, i did not leave any of myself in the way of feedback to you…..not realizing that would be meaningful (or in the current circumstance, decisive) to you….
so i just registered to let you know your words on your blog have had meaning….and how you “rationalize it” as you describe above….is profound in meaning…
thank you for sharing your wisdom, humor, intelligence, and many other qualities with your readers…..
i hope you continue sharing your talents….in your blog writing…
……and of course, i would vote for you continuing with streamingradioguide.com as well….
Susan
http://www.susanhillinfo.com
I have never watched American Idol in my life.
I have read your blog ever since I first discovered the link via the radio guide. I consider myself an avid reader of it and at least an occasional commenter.
If you don’t want to do it anymore, that’s fine, it’s not like we are paying you. However, you should realize that as one of the “dozen” who read your musings I have many times sent your thoughts on to friends via email and used them to launch discussions in person as well. Considering that the average blog has something on the order of 0.8 readers, I would say you are doing outstanding work if you average 12 readers per post ;-).
So, stay or go, thanks for what you have done and best wishes.
Sorry to see it all end, but nothing lasts forever in this life.
Thanks for all your efforts over the years. I found many programs I never would have heard of w/o this site. Loved being able to find something to listen to any hour of the day or night.
I know it takes up much of your time and understand if you want to move on to other things.
As for pulling my weight and volunteering, I tried and often failed and often go a negative message, so I gave up. Got ignoring request messages too .. sometimes I had computer issues and could not test. Never felt I was good enough to even do a small part. However, if you would like paypal donations to access the site, I am more than willing. Take the donations and fund some charity maybe? I know you love radio and I do enjoy your blogs!
Think about this….
Split the blog and radio site…charge $$ for the radio guide. It’s the only one of its kind.
Do like Drudge and headline something at the top of the radio guide with a link to your blog post.
Invite comments as it relates to the music/talk show info. For a successful blog you have to be out front and big with your pov. It has to have a direction/theme. Otherwise it is just a “thought for a day”. It’s a challenge to be the editor of yourself.
Not sure why you want to throw to the tubes something that has been a cumulation of years work. You’ve developed the concept, now give it a tweak in the presentation.
I wouldn’t totally rule that out as an option. Being unrelated to the streaming, it would be pretty clear of those other concerns. But I look at Michelle Malkin, which I’ll never be…. she has basically given it up other than reprinting her syndicated columns. I don’t think there is a business model there.
what has malkin ‘given up’ she blogs quite regularly–and it’s not a reprinting of her columns.
http://michellemalkin.com/
I would gladly pay a monthly fee to keep the guide up and running. Please consider ‘a pay for use’ site. SRG has been my favorite site for several years. I will feel totally lost without it. Is there any thing that we could do to change your mind? Please let us know. I appreciate all the work that you have done. For radio info, this was the best site on the Internet!
Sigh :(
One idea I’ve toyed with is “pay for use” using those volunteer points… meaning that to use the directory, you would have to earn points by doing testing.
This has at least two problems that I see right away. First is that I’ll end up spending more time arbitrating disputes over points than it takes to do the testing – that’s already been the issue with several ex-volunteers wondering why they didn’t get points or why someone else got more points and then taking those disputes into the blog.
The second problem is the fake testing one – if the rule was you have to test to use the site or use some features – and here is a list of things to test, human nature being what it is, some people would just go down the list, figure out the minimum time for the system to accept a test, and go down the list clicking on each one to earn points but not actually doing a test… And many people probably don’t know enough of the odd things radio stations do that make testing tricky.
You offer a service that has a value. Put a price on it. Use pay pal or some other handy money exchange.
I don’t want to volunteer for testing. Not sure I have the expertise or the time. I have a couple of bucks and I like the ease of service. Give me a dollar figure for a month of service. Give me a break for a 1 yr subscription.
Then hire someone part-time to check the connections.
It also occurs to me that there are independent net radio that would pay for some advertising space on the front page – the login page before you get to the list of radio links.
Also, some radio stations might pay to be listed at the top of the list. Especially if you can track their clicks.
Hire someone part-time to sell advertising.
Are you reluctant to make this a commercial venture?
From the postings of others and me, it seems that you have invented the proverbial “better mouse trap”. I encourage to ramp up.
FindAnISP.com was a commercial venture (started as a hobby) that used an in-house pay per click model (as well as referral fees, mostly from Earthlink and toast.net). From the beginning, this was not designed to be a business venture and that’s the way it will stay. It’s not this way from lack of knowledge on how to monitize a clickstream. I enjoy though hearing how people want to reshape it into what they would do with it :)
I enjoyed doing the testing as much as I could. With the new system, I would say it did not work right 10-15% of the time, but, when I saw the post that you were sending people to radiotime if they failed 50 times in a row, I made sure to keep testing (and I liked the novelty of getting the oldest untested stream at the top for shows).
I too hope you can find a way to keep the site going (or even up as a relic that will slowly become inaccurate).
I have learned a lot from your blog. You made me think more about whether Michael Savage is just schtick (I am not totally convinced, but look at him in a new light).
Also, the discussion about the Nuclear situation in Japan was cutting edge, and more informative than anything I have seen elsewhere. I am so glad you got an RSS feed again too, as I regularly check your blog on Google Reader.
The lack of google hits, etc. brings up the idea of “quiet despiration.” I think that is too harsh of a term, but there are so many in this world that do an excellent job of many things, and very few people notice, especially those who are rich, powerful, or in vogue. I hope this week is one where you get a lot of accolades from those who know you and have grown to appreciate your work, both the site and the blog.
They both have enriched my life, and for that, I thank you…..
Well i cant figure out how to post my own comment thread so i will piggyback this one.(Sorry BTW.)Art: I consume a large amont of blog, news and other media almost every day, if there is something going on in the conservitive sphere or some kind of signifigant event in the world i am driven to learn about it. I have seen many links that include the “stop look listen” in the tags. i guess it is just the circles i run in online but your work IS becoming known. These people are right there are few things online i would seriously consider paying for but easy access to online radio like this surely is a viable bussiness product. Someone call…. sorry dont know any rich people!, lol. Good Luck and Good Journey!
You can’t create your own thread because this is a blog :) That’s the function of an Open Thread….
My guess is you’re mostly seeing RSS feeds that echo my posts trying to do pingbacks…. but that’s only a guess. Last time I looked WordPress said I had 6 subscribers, I think.
Yeah Man, I have never watched American Idol, biggest Loser nor survivor. That’s just brain drain. Not any good can come from it.
I loved the surveys you always have ! Some of the answer you had to choose from were Hilarious ! Like Columbus shows up off the coast and you are a ‘Indian’ . What do you do? Get a gun or hide. There were so many, I shared them with my family.
The massive company I work for blocks your sight in office. I have my own laptop without big brother watching software to get to your sight during the day at work. I always check your sight and blogs on the weekends too.
I always read your blogs, the information you provided on how radio stations work, how college radio is going away and the many insights on Government . It has made me a well informed individual. I plan to go see Atlas Shrugged, even though I have to drive to Winston Salem to go see it. (2 hours)
What susan hill said, I may not posted back, but by god I read them !
Man don’t quit now, its close to time when you will be needed. People depend on you now, (I do) and many will in the short time coming.
$45 silver, $1500 + gold, dollar in the tank. SNAPS cards will quit working and riots in the streets. ATF wanting to rename shotguns. See chaos is near.
You will be needed ! You are in Conn. ? Go to Targetsports USA in or near Watertown, and get you a Benelli autoloader and they have Federal military 00 buck 175 count and ammo can for right at $110. Excellent to keep the Zombies away !
Don’t quit now We need you, Stay Safe !
rob from Crazy Town, Virginia.
Somewhere a while back, I posted my research into what the gun laws are in Connecticut – the state goes to about the limit they possibly can go to preventing gun ownership but still stay within the boundaries of the Supreme Court (for now). I’m not a gun person, but I worry about people who don’t trust people to own guns.
You probably would be interested in this local story:
http://valley.newhavenindependent.org/index.php/archives/entry/Ansonia_Man_Allegedly_Harassed_State_Lawmaker/
Ansonia and my town are starting to use a new tactic. If they come to your house without a warrant and you refuse consent, they send in their police dog to attack you, then when you defend yourself against the attach by the dog, they charge you with attacking the dog. My town has authorized buying a dog with the same intent… to intimidate people on the street to comply with improper searches.
I regret not becoming a volunteer on the site sooner, not because I think my involvement could have prolonged its life, but because it was so much fun. I’m going to miss the site first as a user, which I have been for a long time, and as a volunteer. I completely respect anyone who devotes so much time (and in this case, money) to a worthy pursuit. Thank you, Fred, for providing this great service for so long. There’s nothing else on the net that measures up to it. I will mourn its loss. I also hope you will continue the blog so you can continue informing and entertaining.
Thank you for all your help. It took a lot of effort to get so many “points”. As you know part of what I’ve been doing is trying to broaden participation beyond the people like you and I who probably have worked beyond the point of reasonableness to our own well-being. The web site became a victim of it’s own success (or more accurately the proliferation of streaming radio stations)
As of now, 65% of all FM radio stations are streaming. When virtually every radio station is streaming, the directory is less valuable than when streaming stations were a rare find to be shared.
I respectfully disagree at least from the perspective of talk radio about the directory being less valuable.
Since as you have stated in an earlier blog post, many syndicators do not keep accurate affiliate lists, a site such as this was great for finding talk shows that are broadcast on a tape delayed basis.
It made is very easy to find a station that might broadcast say the Rev. Beck or Lou Dobbs in the evening hours.
Before your site, I could easily several hours trying to find stations that broadcast a certain show especially if it was on a tape delayed basis. At least from my perspective, this site will be missed. I have used it on a daily basis both on computers and my iPhone.
Just for the record, I would read your blog on a regular basis but would only comment when I thought I could contribute something to the conversation…
It was a good ride while it lasted…
Reverend Beck is now streaming 24 hours a day, bypassing the local affiliates and without commercials. I expect that trend to continue.
Ok maybe Beck wasn’t a good example. However, your site did help me find Imus and Morning in America affiliates which allowed me to hear the show later if I missed the live feed.
I agree 100%. I will miss the guide. The first day without it, I was in withdrawal. Where? What? How? Oh, no! It cannot be! No! No! No! Not now! Never!
The shakes are slowly subsiding. Thank you so much for sharing all the information with us/me.
I loved the polls. I spent one afternoon reading all the polls!
I do hope you’ll continue the blog.
I wish, also JerseyDevil, that you had become a volunteer sooner. You did a yeoman’s job recently in checking stations and your thoughts were always on target. Nice job…I’ll miss reading your comments.
Thank you WesternMA, I really appreciate that. I can only hope that the yeoman found other employment after I took over his job!
I am back again, today, to beg you to make the SRG a “pay for use” site. Please do this!!! Please!
I also will miss SRG greatly. You built a masterpiece Mr. Stone.
You have some interesting blogs, and i wasn’t aware of them before last weekend.
I will be a frequent visitor & commenter going forward.
Thanks for your efforts on SRG.
Now my problem is:
I’ve been looking for the link to DL the site as a csv file but I can’t find it now.
I did find it last weekend, but now it’s lost (or I am).
Can you point me to that link ?
Thanks,
Jack in Omaha
Its really going away, I still have the shakes. Need more Jose Cuervo.
This is a bad dream. Grrrrrrr
And another thing Art : I have used the link you have provided to check out all of the old radio stations tower locations I used to listen to as a kid. It brings back so many memories of when I was a kid back in WestVirginia. There were no local stations living close to the National Radio Astronomy Observatory. I had a ElectroBrand multiband radio and that thing worked like a champ picking up the best AM stations at night. Being outside in the yard camping out or sitting on the porch with my parents. Way before FM. WOWO, WLS, WGAR, WABC, WBT, WRVA, KDKA, and WWVA when my old man wanted to hear country. It was awesome. I have used your link to Google maps to see the towers of these legendary stations. Some have pics, Man that brings back some great memories from late 6o’s to about 74. I listen to WKKT stream a lot nowadays from Charlotte. I wish I had that old Electrobrand radio.
I wanted to thank you Art/Fred.
Yes, the good old clear channel 50 kw stations. We must be similar in age.
WBT’s tower has some interesting history to it. They weren’t always on 1110 khz – you can’t just change the frequency on an AM tower since it is sized to the wavelength of the signal (usally 1/2, I think – I’m not a big techie)…. so when they switched frequencies that had to play games to electrically “shorten” the tower.
“I rationalize it that maybe some day what I wrote will be the Anne Frank diary explaining what happened to some future generation… but mostly I realize that my words are just grains of sand in a very big ocean”
Sorry, but nowadays your “words” are a dollar a dozen, more or less (sorry, haven’t checked the futures charts in the last few hours, ymmv) – check FreeRepublic, etc.
The service you provided, however, was quite a gem. Too bad for all of us you think so little of it.
*set hook*
Ah, it got away.
;)
i just wanted to throw my 2 cents in and say thank you, Mr. Stone; this was an awesome site. i am going to go out and come back on with IE so i can try to save it like you say to. i’m an old mom so it’s hard to learn new things…. sigh. change is bad. first my soaps are going*, now my talk radio link site is going and to top it off apparently the world is coming to an end on 5/21. this year, no less. here i thought i had at least until 2012… guess not. why was it i quit smoking? *i don’t want to hear disparaging remarks about soaps. after listening to hours of the news then talk radio, a little light soapy incoherent nuttiness is laughter needed to resuscitate the soul. so there. anyway, thanks again, Mr. Stone. God Bless.
Sorry to see the site gone. SRG was part of my routine with my morning coffee and daily chores. Thanks for the many years that I enjoyed your site and best of luck on your next endeavors.
After this, no more bad news pleeeaassse!. Matt Drudge, don’t close your site!, Rush, never start your show with … “Live from New Zealand, it’s open line….”.
Jokes aside, I’ts been fun being a daily visitor/sometimes volunteer to SRG. Adios!!!
