Why do you need the 4th Amendment if you have nothing to hide?

“Sir, your car was weaving”

Thank you officer.

“I see you have a cell phone.   Would you mind if I have a look at your call history?”

I do not consent to a search.

“Very well.   You know I could call the canine unit and have them tear apart your car, don’t you?   You wouldn’t want that to happen if you have nothing to hide.  You aren’t carrying drugs are you?”

I do not consent to a search.

“Oh, so you’re going to be a tough guy.    Let’s see what’s in your cell phone”.

I do not consent to a search and I won’t give you my cell phone.

“No problem, my CelleBrite UFED will give me your list of phone numbers, your call log, the list of web sites you have visited, all your emails, and all those porno videos on it”.

I am not consenting to a search.  You have no warrant and you haven’t stated a reason why you believe I have committed a crime.

“Your car was weaving”.

I do not consent to a search.   I’ve “wiped” my cell phone and unless you have a reason to detain me, I will be leaving now.

“Son, you’re under arrest for interfering with a criminal investigation by destroying evidence in some crime you probably committed, but I don’t know what it is yet”.
