H1N1 update – guest on Steve Malzberg says based on what happened in Australia, the H1N1 flu is a very weak strain – but it will displace and take over the normal “seasonal flu”, which means we probably will have fewer deaths than normal this year as we enter the normal flu season, and people’s immune systems already fought off H1N1 – most of what we are seeing is must mass hysteria (medical term) because the government has frightened people not that many people have actual serious symptoms.

I heard several docs today (on Laura Ingraham) say that it’s more contagious than many other strains, but less dangerous, overall. They also said that the CDC stopped collecting testing data in AUGUST, so they really don’t know how many cases are out there. More transparency in action.
Remember ebola a few years ago? Lethality and contagiousness are opposite forces, almost by definition. If a virus is really potent and lethal, it tends to die out quickly because it runs out of hosts quickly and people go to extraordinary lengths to avoid contact. A weak virus will become widespread quickly. The exception is a virus like HIV which takes a long time to manifest its lethal nature. But even there, it still was confined mostly to a small subgroup who engaged in specific behaviors that were necessary for transmission.
