Dede Scozzafava suspends her campaign and withdraws… if the name doesn’t ring a bell, she is running for the US House seat in New York vacated by John McHugh who President Obama named to be Secretary of the Army. This is the race where Newt Gingrich had endorsed the “moderate Republican” (Dede), and Sarah Palin, Fred Thompson and a few others had endorsed the Conservative party candidate.

The RNC has endorsed Fred Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate when it became apparent Dede was going to lose…

I’m starting to get a bit of hope… I expect John Batchelor will be furious…

Frank Rich declares the GOP to be Stalinists. (Is the purpose of an op ed to permit an opposing opinion or to fill the page opposite the editorial page with more of the same opinions?)

If John is even live this week. ;)

Just a brief correction, the guy’s name’s Doug Hoffman.

And I truly laugh at the Democrats. If Hoffman wins this thing, they’re seriously going to cheer over losing an election. Seriously. Remember, Obama carried that district in 2008. They are not giving one shred of credit to conservatives and are predicting apocalypse for the GOP in 2010 if Hoffman wins (which, as each day passes, looks more and more likely). This district was supposed to be a toss-up like NY20, which ended up pretty much a tie that the Dems won by cooking the special sauce on the recount (like they always do– ever notice how recounts always favor the Democrats?), and yet the third party candidate, even when splitting the Republican vote, is now pushing into the lead. Now, all of a sudden, the Dems call it a safe Republican district. Democrats consider that a victory.

    It’s truly bizarro world.

She has endorsed the Democrat after withdrawing from the race, which pretty much confirms the suspicions of the Conservatives….

She was appointed to run by the 11 country chairpeople of the district – there was no primary election. I’m wondering how many of the 11 were women [hunch]…

Here is a story about how she was selected on the 4th ballot. Her husband Ron McDougall is the head of the AFL-CIO council for 3 counties in her district (he is a member of the UAW)…
