UN has the Libya Hot Potato

The UN is “moving closer” to a vote to allow France to bomb Libya.  The vote should happen at 10 PM ET.

Qadaffi has told Benghazi that his troops are coming to take the city tonight, and no mercy will be shown on anyone who resists.

Stay tuned, and pass the Sour Cream and Chives

My sense of things is changing. The main reason is this statement about attacking Benghazi, coinciding with the UN Vote.

While I believed Qadaffi didn’t want to destroy Benghazi, I now think if the UN passes this, Qadaffi will open up and just burn the town and its 400,000 citizens to the ground, keeping his planes hidden in the desert, hoping to shoot down a few UK or French planes.

If he has any assets in Europe, they’ll get the order to do something (no idea what). If the UN forward deploys to Tunisia or Egypt, this becomes a broader regional war.

    Peace is War.

Do you mean sleeper cells? I hadn’t thought of that before. Interesting twist ….
Even if the UN tells France to go for it, won’t it take a couple of days to put it in place, and won’t Qadaffi be done by then? If that’s the realistic scenario, then what’s to gain in having a No Fly Zone in a country where the rebellion is already defeated?
What are we all missing in this picture?

UK and France say they’re ready to go as soon as the have permission, someone else has joined my speculation that mubarik might be coming out of retirement.

I guess that was 10 PM London time. The UN Security Council voted 10-0 with 5 abstensions to authorize member states to take necessary actions to protect civilian populations.

So if a rebel fighter is driving a tank and shooting at another tank, is he a civilian. If Benghazi is recognized as the government of Libya, does that make a Qadaffi a civilian?

S0, I’m just wonderin’ if Caesar Barakus Obamaeus has a fiddle. I’m just sayin’ ….

If you sit on a pointy fence for too long, you risk becoming impaled.

The extremes (Kusinich and Paul) backed the Democrats into voting again for more war in Afghanistan. The Obama voters must be going nuts about now.
