Sirius / XM – the week of playing with Sirius / XM has just reinforced to me how much trouble radio is in. The more local radio is just voice tracked music and syndicated talk, the stronger the case gets for Sirius. Most of Citadel’s programming is already on Sirius, Fox, NPR, CNN, ESPN… Premiere is the big holdout. Salem’s Bennett is on, but not the rest of the lineup. And Talk Radio Network is only partially on… no Michael Savage. So you get maybe 80% of everything that is nationally available, plus lots of siruis only content (Oprah, Wilkow, Howard Stern, Opie & Anthony). Some of the things you can only find here because few stations carry it – like Fox News Talk, G Gordon Liddy are avaialble – and best of all – no sports preemptions.
What do you see as it advantages, and weaknesses?,
Until Sirius has a full line-up of the talk radio “biggies”, I’m really not interested. I certainly wouldn’t pay for Oprah or Stern (Liddy maybe). Sports preemptions on the weekends are really a drag, but with so may talk show hosts now producing podcasts, I just switch to something else.
