Oprah coming to a radio near you? Oprah has had her own channel on Sirius/XM – it’s not Oprah herself, but her friends and advisors like Gayle King and Dr Oz. Westwood One has announced plans to syndicate the shows on terrestrial radio. Sirius/XM is looking to shed some of its expensive talent to try to become more profitable without losing subscribers…..

I can’t see the Oprah show making a transition to radio. The Oprah television show was more of a visual entity…fashion, artists and decorating…won’t work on radio.
The Sirius/XM channel didn’t need listeners since it is subscription based and not all that clear what channels cause a person to subscribe (other than Howard Stern). I don’t think it would last a month on “real radio”.
Ugh. Seriously? Have we not learned the lesson of Greenstone? “Chick talk” doesn’t draw listeners– or flies.
Combine that with Westwood One having its own financial issues, and the fact that Gayle King is apparently going to be hosting seven hours of programming a day (ask Bill Handel how that turned out), and you can only come to one conclusion:
There’s no way in heck this arrangement lasts more than a year.
