Glenn Beck opens a new rift today – you …

Glenn Beck opens a new rift today – you can’t be a Conservative if you aren’t religious.

This isn’t unexpected to me – if you follow the principles of the founding fathers (at least some of them), your Rights come from God, so therefore there is no argument about what is a right. James Madison and Thomas Jefferson have a special pipeline to God and knew what God said were rights and what aren’t. If you don’t believe in God, then you have no rights and are not men and can be killed with impunity (See: Native Americans)

The alternative view is equally unworkable – that rights come from the consent of the governed. If the Governed can vote themselves rights (See: Democracy) then the will of the majority can determine that the minority have no rights or different rights.

While the caller from Orlando may have been snarky and may have been Mormon baiting, his fundamental point is still one that has to be dealt with.
